Which scale?

With my first experiments I found that the tire size would be an important decision point. First I searched for the appropriate size tires. It turned out that Robbe had the right size, with an acceptable profile and price.

From then on the decision was made the scale would be 1 to 16. After a nights sleep I went to Hobma in Elst to order the different parts.

First

First I made a drawing of the model 1:1.
I used TurboCAD learning edition.
When I was drawing I had the time to think about the solutions to make the different details work.
For a number of parts like, suspension, outriggers and its driving unit I made several sketches.
That way I had made several considerations before I used tools.

The drive line.

The goal was to make the model as realistic as possible, so several axles had get a motor.
I reality the axles 2, 3, 5 and 6 are driven.
In the model the axles 3, 5 and 6 are driven.
This had to do with the maximum rotation of the steering on the axles and the difficulty to bring a drive shaft to the second axle.

As 1 en 2

The same as in reality all axles are steered except for number 4.

The drive axles have a differential and there is a differential in the driveline between axles 3 and 5.

Suspension.

I considered the pneumatic driving leveling system.
But it would take a lot of work and mechanics.
And it could give a lot of problems.

For the suspension I choose normal coil springs.

The driven axles are made by Robbe and bought at Hobma. The suspension I build myself, the same for axles 1 and 2.

The outriggers.
